It also adds to the available collection of medical-historical speciality bibliographies, which now includes a representation of the neglected genre of dental trade catalogs. The present volume impressively illustrates the remarkably creative publishing activity of the dental industry in the second half of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century. While the bibliography of sales catalogues is central to the monograph, historical details about the companies mentioned, as well as roughly 150 illustrations, serve to complete the picture. Zum Autor
Ulrich Lohse wurde 1946 in Hamburg geboren. Studium der Zahnheilkunde und Promotion an der Freien Universität Berlin. Der Autor arbeitet als niedergelassener Zahnarzt in eigener Praxis und hat in den vergangenen fünfzehn Jahren zu zahlreichen medizinhistorischen Themen umfangreich publiziert. Der Schwerpunkt seiner historischen Tätigkeit liegt seit längerem bei der Erforschung und Dokumentation früher zahnärztlicher Verkaufskataloge. In ihnen hat der Autor einen wertvollen Schatz erkannt, der es wert ist, einer breiteren wissenschaftlichen Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht zu werden. Die vorliegende sehr breit angelegte Arbeit ist das Ergebnis profunder weltweiter Recherche in zahlreichen Bibliotheken und Sammlungen. About the Author
Ulrich Lohse was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1946. He completed his studies and a doctorate in dentistry at the Freie Universität Berlin. The author has his own dental practice and has been published extensively on a wide variety of medical-historical subjects in the past fifteen years. For quite some time now, the focus of his historical activity has been on the study and documentation of early dentists' catalogues. The author has recognised in them a valuable treasure trove of knowledge which deserves to be made accessible to the scientific community at large.The present volume is the very expansive result of intense research in numerous libraries and collections all over the world. The author is a member of various historical guilds.
